The story about sleep has gotten more interesting. Jagran is waking. Supta is semi awake. or when we are dreaming. But Susupta is deep sleep. It has a special place in advaita. It is the state of mind where name and form do not matter. Egoless. The kind of sleep we need to regenerate the brain. When we are stressed we get interrupted often. We are still mentally active. Brain continues to work. When we are in susupta or non rem or nrem sleep there is no mental activity . This is the time when the brain regenerates by harnessing the energies of the universe.

In susupta state there is no mental activity. No forms. only blissfull unconsciousness. But thanks to stress, we get very few hours of nrem sleep. There is one herb in nature which is mentioned alongside tulsi ashwagandha in atharvaveda. It is called ganjika. It not only ensures nrem sleep or susupta it also ensures atleast 4 hours of uninterrupted susupta, . This is all a human needs.
Modern and ancient science are converging.
